It is easy to drift through life without truly paying attention to what matters most. Proverbs 27 calls us to know the condition of our lives, just as a shepherd knows the condition of his flock. What we have today will not last forever, and the things that matter require tending. Being attentive means facing hard truths, receiving honest feedback, and responding to danger before it grows. It also means paying attention to our season of life and the unique demands it brings. Most importantly, it means giving careful thought to our spiritual lives, where our souls are headed, and what legacy we are leaving behind. The encouraging truth is that even as we are called to be attentive, God is already deeply attentive to us. He is the Good Shepherd who never loses track of His sheep.
