Proverbs: "The Poor" | Pastor Todd Hessel

Proverbs 28 offers a layered and honest look at wealth, poverty, integrity, and our responsibility to one another. Poverty is not simply a lack of money but the result of broken relationships, with God, with others, and with the world. Having wealth is not sinful, but the relentless pursuit of it at any cost leads to ruin. Integrity outranks wealth in God's economy, and greed ultimately impoverishes rather than enriches. Corrupt leaders who oppress the poor will not last, because God sees injustice and acts. Giving to those in need is not optional for followers of God, and real help requires genuine relationship, not just financial assistance. The gospel reframes everything: we are not people of strength looking down at the poor, but beggars who have been rescued by grace. Living with integrity in a world that rewards greed takes courage, and that courage is rooted in trusting God for the good of our neighbors.
